View ArticleHere at Boro Bathrooms, we’re delighted that up to three different households are allowed to mix in your home over this year’s Christmas holidays, for a limited period. It may not be as many people as you are used to seeing or would like to spend time with, but given the year we’ve all had, it is a lot better than having a nationwide lockdown.
Once you have decided who you are going to spend Christmas with, the need to clean the house and get the bathroom in tip-top condition is a must. In this blog, we have some cleaning tips, and advice, on how to decorate a bathroom, so you can prevent the spread of infection, ensure your home is disinfected, and have a house to be proud of!
Not because you look a mess or anything like that – but have you noticed those grubby finger marks and streaks? Many hands may touch your bathroom mirror over time, especially if you have an unfixed mirror. The good news is that mirrors are generally really easy to clean. Start by removing any dust from the mirror’s surface with a dry cloth, and then remove any marks with a damp microfiber cloth. Allow the mirror to dry naturally as trying to rub it dry with a cloth can cause streaks.
Learning how to clean bathroom grout and remove mould will ensure your bathroom remains gleaming and your health is unaffected. It takes a little bit of elbow grease but otherwise this is a fairly simple task. Your choice of cleaning agent will determine how much effort is required – better products with stronger formulas will require less energy from yourself. If you don’t have any cleaning products to hand, some white vinegar and lemon juice will work just as well. Still struggling? Try hot water, liquid soap and baking soda. Baking soda attacks and breaks down mould, so the hot soapy water can wash it away.
Learning how to clean bathroom tiles is as much about the preparation as it is about the actual task itself. Run your shower for a few minutes on a hot setting before you start cleaning – as hot as you can get it. This will open up the ceramic pores and allow you to access more of the trapped dirt.
Similar to how you clean bathroom grout, you can choose specialist cleaning products to clean your tiles or use simple products from your home – like citrus juice, vinegar and baking soda. Avoid scrubbing too hard, keep a constant and gentle wiping motion going throughout, and that should be enough to alleviate dirt. Cleaning your taps is just as simple – especially brass taps that are easily shined with lemon juice or even tomato ketchup! However, you should avoid abrasive cleaners or anything that can scratch taps, like scourers or wire wool.
This one is super important in the current climate, to help reduce the spread of infection and other bacterial nastiness. Ideally, you, and your family, should be washing and disinfecting your hands whenever you enter your home from the outside. Your bathroom is a room that almost everyone will use at some point – even your guests – so it is important to ensure this area is clean and disinfected.
If you are still decorating your bathroom and need some bathroom ideas, it’s always a good idea to choose antibacterial surfaces and materials, like stainless steel or copper. These materials inhibit the ability of microorganisms to grow on the surface, so there is less chance of transferring bacteria or other harmful things by hand.
Space-saving quality is a big selling point for any bathroom and, to achieve this, you must think small, decorative and practical. A small stand or side table no bigger than 50cm should fit underneath your sink or in a corner, neatly tucked away but still within easy reach.
If your bathroom offers natural light through a window or skylight – take advantage of it! Natural daylight gives your bathroom a fresher and lighter appearance – but only if your window is nice and clean! Opened curtains or plants will add a perfect yet minimal finished touch.
